CCHL House League Clinics
In an effort to improve the quality and skill of our players and
league, the CCHL offers a weekly one hour clinic for players in 8U, 10U,
and 12U age divisions. We encourage ALL players of ALL skill levels to
take advantage of this rink time to practice, receive group instruction,
and improve their hockey skills.
WHAT IS A CLINIC?
Clinics are practice sessions aimed at improving players fundamental
hockey skills such as skating, passing, puck handling and shooting.
The clinics are one hour long on Wednesday evenings at Airline Skate
Center.

WHO RUNS THE CLINIC?
Clinics are run by CCHL coaches who volunteer their time. Clinic
coaches rotate each week this means you will receive instruction from
a different clinic coach each week. The clinic format and instruction
will vary from week to week depending on the coach running the
clinic. For example, some coaches will run more drills, while others
will have a mix of drills and scrimmage play.
WHY SHOULD YOUR PLAYER PARTICIPATE IN CCHL CLINICS?
1. Practice makes playing games more fun! The best and only
way for a player (of any skill level) to develop and improve their game
day play is through practicing his/her fundamental hockey skills (i.e.,
SKATING, passing, puck handling and shooting). The more each player
practices his/her fundamental skills, the more confident and comfortable
he/she will be in game situations...the more fun he/she will have
playing.
2. Learning the fundamental skills of hockey is challenging ...
but very REWARDING. Sometimes novice players learning the game
of hockey can become frustrated at clinic practices. This is not
surprising. Clinics focus on fundamental skills and this tends to
highlight the weaknesses in a players game.
WE STRONGLY SUGGEST you encourage your child to keep at it, try hard and
persevere through the initial learning process. Improvement will come
quickly if he/she puts forth the effort. The process can be likened to
learning to read or write or solve a math problem. Its not easy, it
takes time and serious effort, and no one can do it for you. However,
there is a great sense of accomplishment and personal satisfaction once
mastered.
3. Game time instruction is limited. CCHL coaches do an
excellent job of instructing and coaching players during weekend games.
However, weekend game time is limited and the pace of play is fast.
Consequently, most coaches find it necessary to focus their coaching on
positional play. Coaches generally find they do not have the necessary
time to explain the more specific technical aspects of hockey during
game play e.g., how to make a pass, how to receive a pass, correct
body position/form for forward skating, backward skating, turning, etc.
THIS IS WHAT CLINICS TEACH.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT WEDNESDAY NIGHT CLINICS. |
